You'll note that both Guido and Dizzy's are in my blogroll, so no need to put their urls. Secondly, it backfired first on the Tories when the Bosworth Conservative Future blog created its own logo creator. There are witty slogans on both sides of the spectrum, a good thing to know that political banter is alive and well in Britain today.

How one wishes Cameron would start punching. You know, hammering hard at Gordon and his lot. If ever an opposition was given a heaven-sent series of gorblimey gaffes from a government, it's this one. There's too much floating like a butterfly with Cameron, and not enough stinging like a bee. He'd better get tough and beat up on Gordon mercilessly, or the used-to-be labour party will get back again, on the votes of all the benefits claimants.

Hi Mr Thinker,

I agree fully with your comments and interestingly enough I noticed an article at the weekend from climate change expert Jim Hansen who said the Heathrow protests do not deserve support and that there are greater environmental concerns they should be focusing on.

I can certainly agree with him and there are more pressing environmental concerns that don't seem to gain such attention. Our over dependence on Road Freight is one of them but we don't see protesters blockading themselves to the front gates of Eddie Stobart.

Heathrow with just two runways is operating at capacity for the majority of the time and Mr Thinker is right, domestic passengers at Heathrow are now down below 9% and it is very difficult to find real alternatives to long haul.

What it isn't difficult to do though is find alternatives to Heathrow, if you were a international business looking for a foothold in the European market why wouldn't you just base yourself in Frankfurt (who have just announced the building of a 4th runway at Fraport), Paris or Amsterdam all have excellent airports with spare capacity, good international links, excellent routes to regional airports in the UK (Schiphol has to 22 British locations) and fantastic transport links to the rest of Western Europe.

If London is to maintain itself as a world business centre in needs the logistics and facilities to be in place.

Hi Mario

sorry for picking up on this only now, but I wanted to prod you further on this.

I globally agree with your point: at its core, the issue is not flying but unnecessary flying.

From a campaigning perspective, though: can environmentalists afford to not lash out against the Heathrow expansion? Paradoxically, they run the risk of looking incoherent or too soft in their concern about the evils of aviation if their campaigning focused only on a certain kind of flying.

In other words, isn't the fact that you should come out and make this very argument a case in point for anti-third runway campaign?

I also agree with you that there is a confusion between the 'local residents' story and the 'climate change' one at the heart of Greenpeace's campaign. But again, this is probably deliberate.

Kramer also bought a patch of the land - a blow for Zac, who must now step up his efforts even further to counter Kramer's moves to lead the whole Heathrow campaign, not just the Lib Dem Heathrow campaign.
